Great budget hotel

I booked several nights at Hotel Armstrong in Paris solely on the fact that it was cheap. When I got there, I was pleasantly surprised. I was there with my boyfriend, and our room was small (I expected that) but clean. The bathroom was also spotless, and there was always lots of hot water. I was glad there was an elevator as our room was on the 5th floor. There is no A/C, but we were completely comfortable.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is 2 minutes from the Porte de Montreuil Metro stop, and you can be downtown in 20 minutes. Some people will have a problem with not being in a more central location. But I’m willing to save a few dollars and spend a little more time on the Metro. My normal morning commute to work is twice as long.

Some people said that the neighbourhood is sketchy. It’s obviously not the most glamourous part of town, but we felt safe there. There was a great patisserie, several cafes, and yes, a McDonald’s (we avoided that, all the McDonalds in France seem to run at snail speed!). It’s also not far away from the famous Pere Lachaise cemetery.

If you’re looking for big rooms and a central location, keep looking. But if you’re looking for a good little budget hotel, I recommend this one.
